Monday 29 March 2010 12:30 Austrian media reacted almost perplex and more than surprised to the fact, that the candidate for the federal presidency from the Christian Party of Austria (CPÖ) had achieved the goal of surpassing the magic number of 6000 signatures supporting his candidacy. This means that not only the incumbent president Fischer and the controversial FPÖ candidate Rosenkranz, but also Dr. Gehring will stand in the elections. Europe is now giving these values out of its own free will. This says former president Vytautas Landsbergis of Lithuania in an interview. "Europe no longer fights for the foundations of its own identity", Landsbergis senses. He thinks Christian principles such as solidarity and the belief in a clear distinction between good and evil belong to the core values of Europe. full story

In 1957, six countries -- France, West Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg -- signed a treaty to form a common market, called the European Economic Community (EEC).
