"The Christians" gather enough signatures for participating in elections

diechristenlogoMonday 25 August 2008 19:12 The recently established Austrian party "Die Christen Partei" (DCP, i.e. "The Christians") has managed to gather enough signatures supporting their party's bid for the Federal parliament. This brings the total number of parties participating in the federal elections to ten.

With four main issues "Die Christen Partei" (DCP) wants to attract a broad group of voters: Marriage and Family, Protection of Life, Raising and Education as well as Culture. In the last regional elections in Tirol the new party achieved 1,4% of the votes and it hopes for broad support in the federal elections.

ECPYN congratulates the DCP with gaining enough support to participate in the federal elections, Secretary General Jonathan van Tongeren: "It is quite exciting to see this newly established relative in the family of Christian political parties in Europe gaining enough support to enter the race for parliament and we hope that the result will be that Christian politics will make an impact on Austrian politics and society".

The federal elections in Austria will take place on September 28.
