ECPYN congratulates Lithuanian Christian Democrats with election results

lkdThursday 16 October 2008 12:00 The conservative and Christian-democrat TS-LKD were able to achieve a big election victory in the elections for the national parliament (seimas) last Sunday October 12. The TS-LKD became the largest party in the first round of the elections and is heading for a good result in the second round. The combination surpassed populist and leftist parties with a well-thought program and stable policies rooted in Christian values.

The TS-LKD victory shows that people are looking for stability and clear values in uncertain times.  ECPYN congratulates the Christian-democrats in Lithuania and wishes them wisdom in the task ahead.

The first round of Lithuanian parliamentary elections elects 70 members of parliament under proportional representation in a single district. The second round is a run-off in several districts with a first-past-the-post system and will elect the remaining 71 members of parliament. The second round is to take place October 26.
