In the morning Jonathan and Auke participated in the workshop 'Young Generation', as the AUF-Party has not established a youth organisation yet, since the party itself was established as recently as last January.
Jonathan, in his presentation, explained how a youth organisation can bet set up, drawing on his experience within PerspectivE Youth of the Christian Union party in the Netherlands. He addressed among others the organisational structure, internal communications, effectively carrying out political positions and attracting positive media attention.
Auke, in his presentation, reflected on the posibilities on the local level. Some of the ideas presented by Auke were quite refreshing to the participants. It is not as hard as it can seem, when you're enthusiastic.
In the discussions that followed we continued to speak about the possibilities for the participants, how young people can make a difference in society and why it is so important to make yourself heard. The practical examples of local branches of PerspectivE were very usefull for Jonathan and Auke in conveying their ideas. It soon became clear that a number of young people could easily realise some concrete political actions on the local level.
In the afternoon there were some interesting speeches by an Estonian proffessor at the University of South Africa and a renownd German journalist. There was also ample time for meeting some people and engaging in personal conversations, which is always good for networking.
