Hitchhiking in Europe

Thursday 28 May 2009 16:06 Members of PerspectieF, the youth organisation of the ChristianUnion from The Netherlands, are campaigning by hitchhiking today for the elections of the European Parliament. A couple of members of PerspectieF are on their way to Belgium and France. “Dutch politicians running for European Parliament talk these days only about internal affairs. By this action, we want to show that many rules and laws are made in Europe, and that cooperation on a European level is important” says PerspectieF president IJmert Muilwijk.

Muilwijk departed Thursday morning together with a reporter from the Dutch News Agency (ANP) from Nijmegen. Around noon he arrived in Utrecht after 4 times changing cars. “I have been in a car with a passionate member of D66 (social liberal party), with a member of the socialist party (SP) and two people who didn’t know who they wanted to vote for. They said they want to vote for ChristianUnion now.”

While hitchhiking, the members of PerspectieF talk with car drivers and van drivers about the meaning of Europe. The day started with a breakfast at the Nijmegen station where PerspectieF members showed how Europe is involved with the products in the supermarket.
When the members of PerspectivE arrive in Belgium and France, they will help C’Axxent (Belgium) and the FRS (France) with their campaign.
